Cross Necklaces with Birthstones

There are a lot of reasons why one may choose to wear a cross necklace.  Some people wear it because of the religious meaning attached to the crucifix.

While others wear it because it is a trendy piece of jewelry that never goes out of style.  Others may have their own meanings associated with wearing a cross necklace.

Either way, it doesn’t matter why you wear a cross necklace. If it makes you happy, you don’t need to have a valid reason behind it.

Adding Birthstones to Cross Necklaces

Aside from cross necklaces, the most common piece of jewelry that a lot of people seem to wear are birthstones.

Whether it is a locket, a ring, or a bracelet, people seem to enjoy wearing a piece of jewelry that signifies their birth month. Some people even believe that wearing your birthstones brings luck and prosperity.

The roots of this belief can be traced back to the Bible, as both the Old and New Testaments mention the color of each birthstone.

In The Book of Exodus, it is narrated that a special breastplate was worn by the priest Aaron. This breastplate contained 12 unique gemstones that represent the 12 tribes of Israel.

Over the years, astrologers became interested in these unique gemstones and started attributing a unique gemstone to each month of the year as well as the twelve zodiac signs.

Listed below are the birthstone attributed to each month and the unique meaning they hold.

January – Garnet

Early astrologers believed that garnet could protect one from nightmares and evil thoughts during the night.

It is also believed that if a person born in January wears a piece of garnet, it guides them through the night which symbolizes dark and difficult times. The red color of the garnet is believed to symbolize love, courage, and faith.

February – Amethyst

This purple gemstone is believed to symbolize passion, hope, and royalty.

The legends say that if a person born in February owns a piece of the amethyst gemstone, it calms their spirit and brings focus to their life.

It can also protect the wearer from drunkenness and illness such as arthritis.

Since people born in February tend to have their minds wander, amethyst supposedly helps guard their minds in overcoming difficulties.

March – Aquamarine

It was believed during ancient times that an aquamarine can protect seafarers from any calamities that can occur during their voyages.

It also helped them remember their loved ones when they were away from them.

Over time, it became the birthstone for people born in March, but the courage and hope associated with the gemstone remained the same.

It is also believed that wearing an aquamarine stone can help boost creativity and self-expression.

April – Diamond

From ancient Greek to the present day, diamonds have always been considered a symbol of love and promise. This is why it is traditionally used to make engagement rings and wedding bands.

This sparkly gemstone is attributed to the people born in the month of April.

Not only does this gemstone promote love and courage, but can also protect its wearer from insanity.

May – Emerald

Emerald is one of the most luxurious-looking gemstones.  Therefore, it is no surprise that it is attributed to the people born in May, who tend to have a taste for the finer things in life.

It is believed that wearing this birthstone can boost health, wealth, fertility, and faithfulness.

Some people also believe that an emerald can cure specific ailments, detoxify the liver, and promote health and wellness.

June – Pearl

Pearls are the only gemstones that are created by living animals. Retrieved from the shell of an oyster, pearls are considered to be the purest gems out there.

Perhaps, this is why a pearl symbolizes purity and modesty. People born in June can wear pearls to keep anxious and nervous thoughts at bay.

It is also believed that pearls can increase fertility and reduce the pain experienced during childbirth.

July – Ruby

Ruby is a vivid and eye-catching gemstone. It is attributed to the month of July and can supposedly protect its wearer against bad luck and misfortune.

The red color of the gemstone symbolizes courage and strength, while also promoting a sense of harmony for its wearer.

August – Peridot

Peridots are another gemstone that symbolizes purity. For centuries, it has been believed that peridots can bring wealth, courage, and wisdom to their wearer.

Associated with the month of August, this light green stone symbolizes nature and helps calm stress, anger, and anxiety.

It is also believed that people born in August can wear this stone to protect themselves from black magic, or evil eye.

September – Sapphire

Sapphire is a majestic gemstone that is believed to symbolize truth and protection.

It is attributed to the month of September and can bring success to its wearer. It is also believed that Sapphires exhibit wisdom, loyalty, faith, purity, and serenity.

October – Opal or Tourmaline

Early astrologers believed that wearing an opal gemstone can soothe away sadness for people born in October, while also protecting them from envious thoughts.

It can also make the wearer more optimistic and boost their will to live a happy and harmonious life.

Another stone that is associated with October is Tourmaline due to its resistance to scratching and breaking.

November – Topaz

The birthstone associated with the month of November is Topaz.

This stone is found in shades of yellow, orange, and brown and is believed to promote health and wellness for its wearer.  Ancient Astrologers also believed that it could protect the wearer from negative influences.

December – Blue Topaz, Blue Zircon, or Turquoise

As discussed earlier, the gemstones were mentioned by color in The Book of Exodus. The lack of names for these gemstones can sometimes make it difficult to determine which one was mentioned in the Bible.

Such is the case with the birthstone for December, where it is argued that the birthstone could either be Blue Topaz, Blue Zircon, or Turquoise. However, all three of these gemstones are believed to bring happiness and good fortune for people born in December.

At the same time, all of these are believed to possess healing properties. Therefore, it is up to you to decide which one you’d like to wear.
